Basketball Recap: Westside Comes Up Short

After flying high against Belton-Honea Path on Tuesday, Westside came back down to earth. The Rams were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 63-62 to the Greenwood Eagles. The contest was a 23-23 toss-up at halftime, but the Rams couldn't quite close it out.

Jonovan Webb and Donzel Edwards certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Webb shot 40% from the field on his way to 16 points, while Edwards dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds. Edwards has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Cory Williams was another key player, putting up seven points.

Greenwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nyjaviese Duncan led the charge by earning 19 points and eight assists. Another player making a difference was Damarion Roman, who went 9-for-19 en route to 24 points.

Westside's record now sits at 3-2. As for Greenwood, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Westside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 83-75 loss against T.L. Hanna on the 6th. As for Greenwood, they have also already played their next game, a 78-63 victory against Wren on the 8th.
