Baseball Recap: Crawford Sets Scoring Season-High Against St. Joseph Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Crawford). They were the clear victors by a 23-6 margin over the St. Joseph Academy Crusaders on Monday. Considering the Colts have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexis Carrillo and Abbel Martinez were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Carrillo tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Martinez pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Crawford is 2-1 when Martinez allows three or fewer hits, but 5-6 otherwise. At the plate, Carrillo scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Martinez scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most runs Martinez has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Crawford got a massive performance out of Abraham Carillo-Ceron, who went 5-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Carillo-Ceron is becoming a predictor of the Colts' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Hector Fuentes, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances.

Crawford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Crawford moved to 7-7 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak. As for St. Joseph Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Crawford didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 6-0 win against Army-Navy on the 10th. As for St. Joseph Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-6 defeat against Ocean View Christian on the 8th.
