The Gatewood Gators will face off against the Athens Christian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gatewood will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Gatewood was able to grind out a solid win over Windsor Academy, taking the game 7-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Athens Christian). Everything went their way against Piedmont Academy on Monday as they made off with a 19-2 victory. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Ellianna Christian was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Christian was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Harper Westbrook was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Riley Ossick, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Athens Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.8.
Athens Christian's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Gatewood, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
Gatewood suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Athens Christian when the teams last played back in September. Will the Gators have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
