The Aptos Mariners waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They snuck past Summit Shasta with a 66-61 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Aptos to victory, but perhaps none more so than Berkeley Ashby, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Ashby is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Gabby Wickham, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Aptos' victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Summit Shasta, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4.
Aptos will stay at home for another game and welcome Santa Cruz at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Santa Cruz will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak. As for Summit Shasta, they will head out on the road to challenge San Francisco Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. San Francisco Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
