The Hesperia Scorpions are taking a road trip to face off against the Academy for Academic Excellence Knights at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Hesperia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Hesperia is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 26-3 margin over Hesperia Christian on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Scorpions.
Silas Skinner was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Hesperia let Josh Flores and Dru Lona run wild. Flores went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double, while Lona scored five runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs Flores has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nathan Rodriguez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Hesperia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Academy for Academic Excellence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 6-1 to Barstow.
Nathan Rudd was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Rudd was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.
Hesperia's record now sits at 4-2. As for Academy for Academic Excellence, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Academy for Academic Excellence's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hesperia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Academy for Academic Excellence, though, as they've only averaged .172. Will they be able to contain Hesperia's hitters?
Everything went Hesperia's way against Academy for Academic Excellence in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Hesperia made off with a 14-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hesperia since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
