The Laurel Christian Lions will square off against the Prairie View Academy Spartans on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Laurel Christian is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Lamar Christian, who was ranked fifth at the time (Laurel Christian was ranked second). Laurel Christian never let Lamar Christian get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for Laurel Christian, who have now won ten games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Leyla Rigby and Gracie Blackwell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rigby tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Blackwell struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Rigby has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Rigby got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Blackwell went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Bella Williamson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Emma Risher was another key player, earning two runs and one stolen base.
Laurel Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Prairie View Academy won against Briarfield Academy back in August with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again back in August. The Spartans came out on top against the Rebels by a score of 10-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Laurel Christian's victory bumped their record up to 18-4. As for Prairie View Academy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Laurel Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Prairie View Academy when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 8-5. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
