Bryson Ruiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, LT Lindsay was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Trace Murchison, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Woodcreek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tokay only posted a batting average of .125.
Meanwhile, Del Oro was able to grind out a solid victory over Bella Vista on Wednesday, taking the game 8-5. That's two games straight that the Golden Eagles have won by exactly three runs.
The team relied heavily on Shane Maloney, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Pusterla, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Woodcreek has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Del Oro, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 20-9.
Woodcreek beat Del Oro 6-3 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Timberwolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
