Eldorado is 6-1 against West Mesa since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Eldorado Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the West Mesa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Eldorado is ranked 16th, while West Mesa is ranked 18th).
Even though Farmington scored an imposing 40 points on Saturday, Eldorado still came out on top. Eldorado secured a 44-40 W over Farmington. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Eldorado as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Among those leading the charge was Brandon Olivas, who threw for 336 yards and five touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahari Morehead, who picked up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, West Mesa never let their opponents score on Friday. They claimed a resounding 57-0 victory over Rio Grande on the road. The result was nothing new for West Mesa, who have now won four games by 26 points or more so far this season.
Elijah Brody was his usual excellent self, rushing for 180 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 75 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Brody really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. Tavon Archibald got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Eldorado's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for West Mesa, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Eldorado has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 267 passing yards per game. It's a different story for West Mesa, though, as they've been averaging only 151.2 per game. How will West Mesa fare against such a dominant passing game?
Eldorado suffered a grim 34-8 defeat to West Mesa in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Can Eldorado avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
