While Murrieta Mesa's win against Woodcrest Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Royals 8-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.
The team relied heavily on Zach Janczyk, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Quintin Diaz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Murrieta Mesa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Temecula Valley and Murrieta Mesa, and Murrieta Mesa kept the tradition alive. The Golden Bears fell just short of the Rams by a score of 3-1 on Monday. The Golden Bears' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Chase Hilt was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Hilt wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Recio, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Murrieta Mesa's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Temecula Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Murrieta Mesa has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Temecula Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Murrieta Mesa skirted past Temecula Valley 3-1 in their previous meeting on Monday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
