The Northgate Broncos won the last time they faced the Acalanes Dons, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Northgate managed a 56-52 win over the Dons. Given Northgate's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Dons are ranked 509th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jake Andjus was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points. Another player making a difference was Jacob Ebrahimi, who scored nine points.
When it comes to explaining why Acalanes lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maddox Malm. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Brady Quinn was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Northgate is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. As for Acalanes, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-18.
Northgate will head out on the road to challenge the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Campolindo will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive. Acalanes will take on the Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Diablo has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 11.
