Basketball Recap: Highland Comes Up Short

Highland lost against Williams Field back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Highland Hawks fell to the Williams Field Black Hawks 50-46. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Black Hawks are ranked 18th).

Despite the loss, Highland still got an impressive performance from Bailey Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Williams has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Jacobsen, who posted seven points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Addison Ramirez went supernova for Williams Field, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Ramirez has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. Corrine Jones was another key player, putting up seven points and 12 rebounds.

Highland has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Williams Field, their victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland has already played their next contest (against Queen Creek), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Williams Field will venture away from home to square off against Gilbert at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilbert will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Williams Field surely won't give up without a fight.
