The Polk County Wolverines suffered their biggest defeat since December 18, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by East Rutherford on the road and fell 79-52. Polk County has struggled against East Rutherford recently, as their contest on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Polk County saw an underclassman step up: Gunnar Alm scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 46.2% of Polk County's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lawson Carter, who scored seven points along with six assists and six rebounds.
East Rutherford's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jj Arrowood, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Grant Adkins was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with two steals.
Polk County bumped their record down to 3-13 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for East Rutherford, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Brevard the next time they take the court. Polk County will head out to face Brevard at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while East Rutherford will host them at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
