On Thursday, Santa Maria didn't have too much trouble with East Bakersfield on the road as they won 50-36. The win was all the more spectacular given Santa Maria's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 572nd, while East Bakersfield is ranked 241st).
Santa Maria's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nevaeh Madrigal led the charge by scoring 17 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Reyes, who scored 10 points along with 8 assists and 4 steals.
The win got Santa Maria back to even at 3-3. As for East Bakersfield, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Notre Dame the next time they take the court. Santa Maria will host Notre Dame at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, while East Bakersfield will host them at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
