The Elk Grove Thundering Herd's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their 11th straight loss. They took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sacramento Adventist. The match was a 20-20 toss-up at halftime, but Elk Grove was outscored by Sacramento Adventist in the second.
Despite the defeat, Elk Grove had strong showings from Nyla Kieu, who scored 12 points, and Kaylee Venegas, who scored 11 points. Kieu continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
It was another big night for Mikayla Meza, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds for Sacramento Adventist. Another player making a difference was Victoria Fowler, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
Elk Grove's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Sacramento Adventist, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-4.
Elk Grove will head out on the road to challenge St. Francis at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Francis presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Elk Grove in California (St. Francis is ranked 316th, while Elk Grove is ranked 1080th). As for Sacramento Adventist, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Cristo Rey at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th.
