Baseball Recap: Lower Lake Snaps 13-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Lower Lake got themselves on the board against Upper Lake on Tuesday, but Upper Lake never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 10-0 victory. That looming 10-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Trojans yet this season.

Brody Shields made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

Shields wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ashton Hartman, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Hartman has posted since back in March of 2024. Another was Zach Jones, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Lower Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Lower Lake's win ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-11. As for Upper Lake, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lower Lake will host Clear Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Upper Lake, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Middletown at 4:00 p.m. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.21 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
