There's no place like home for the Hughesville Spartans, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They secured a 47-41 W over Bloomsburg on Wednesday. Given Hughesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Panthers are ranked 224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Alli Anstadt, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Breanna Bobak, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Bloomsburg lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brynna Zentner, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Zentner hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Pistoia, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Hughesville pushed their record up to 17-3 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Bloomsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hughesville will take on the RED TORNADOES at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mount Carmel is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Bloomsburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Columbia Area comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
