West Warwick and Chariho are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Wizards will be playing at home against the Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Warwick is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
West Warwick is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Ponaganset, who was ranked 25th at the time (West Warwick was ranked 12th). The Wizards came out on top against the Chieftains by a score of 5-1 on Tuesday.
Anthony Burt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Jair Blanco and Nick Andruchow did most of the damage at the plate: Blanco went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Andruchow went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Luke Gallo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Chariho hadn't done well against Central recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Chargers skirted past the Knights 6-4. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Chargers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Christian Mancini was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Gavin Apice, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
The victory got Chariho back to even at 8-8. As for West Warwick, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Warwick has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chariho struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
West Warwick might still be hurting after the 19-3 loss they got from Chariho when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Will the Wizards have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
