Austen Shroyer was his usual excellent self, throwing for 226 yards and four touchdowns on only 16 passes, while also rushing for 83 yards and one TD on only six carries. What's more, he racked up 151 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Harlingen South proved: they limited Donna North to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. The Hawks didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 15.7.
Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 24-13 win over Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Raiders' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 176th, while the Eagles are ranked 383rd).
Harlingen South better keep an eye on Ethan Guerra. He was instrumental in Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's win, rushing for 167 yards and a pair of scores, while also picking up 56 receiving yards and one touchdown. Guerra's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 15th straight game with at least 102 rushing yards dating back to last season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's defense and their five sacks. Josiah Solis was especially locked on to Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Eagles' side was Rey Martinez, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Harlingen South, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Harlingen South has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 208.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North struggles in that department as they've been averaging 343.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Harlingen South might still be hurting after the 42-17 defeat they got from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Hawks were down 42-3.
