Softball Recap: Elizabeth Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Elizabeth had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Strasburg Indians a 12-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Cardinals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Aurelia Espinoza was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Espinoza was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Jessie VanAernam and Braelyn Allison did most of the damage at the plate: VanAernam went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Allison got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI VanAernam has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brynley Twiss, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Elizabeth will host Pueblo Centennial at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Strasburg, they will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Fort Lupton at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
