The Mt. Carmel Sundevils had to endure a 12-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Escondido 51-48. The win was just what Mt. Carmel needed coming off of a 71-34 loss in their prior matchup.
Mt. Carmel's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kiyanna Ellis, who scored six points along with 17 rebounds and four steals. Lacey Quintanilla was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Anaya Mcglory and Jasmine Reyes certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Mcglory dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Reyes dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Reyes is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Dumbauld, who scored two points along with six steals.
Mt. Carmel's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-12. As for Escondido, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Carmel's road trip will continue as they head out to face San Pasqual at 5:30 p.m. on January 12th. As for Escondido, they will challenge Valley Center at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
