Fort Calhoun had lost three straight, but after bumping their record up to 7-3 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Cass Wildcats as they made off with a 9-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Fort Calhoun got a great performance from Isabel Wray as she struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Wray has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tacey Belina and Izabelle Greenough did most of the damage at the plate: Belina went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Greenough went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Belina has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Nolan, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Fort Calhoun always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cass only posted an OBP of .250.
As for Cass, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Cass' side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Stone, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Stone has hit this season.
Coincidentally, Fort Calhoun and Cass will both be playing Aquinas the next time they take the field. The Pioneers will host the Monarchs at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, while the Wildcats will play them later in the day, at 12:30 p.m.
