Granite Hills has gone 8-2 against Grossmont recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Foothillers at 4:00 p.m. Granite Hills will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
On Thursday, Granite Hills made easy work of El Capitan and carried off an 8-2 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Brenden Lewis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Luke Schutza was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Brodey Vicars also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Grossmont fell victim to Steele Canyon and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Foothillers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Grossmont also got a good showing from Jacob Holman, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The Foothillers are 3-1 when Holman allows three or fewer hits, but 5-9 otherwise.
Granite Hills pushed their record up to 12-0-2 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average this season. As for Grossmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
Grossmont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Granite Hills has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. It's a different story for Grossmont, though, as they've only averaged .297. Will they be able to contain Granite Hills' hitters?
Granite Hills was able to grind out a solid win over Grossmont in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
