It was a good run, but the Sayre Sabres unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Samuel Fels by a score of 36-34. Sayre was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Samuel Fels apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2015.
When it comes to explaining why Sayre lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brionn Veal-Coston. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Veal-Coston scored a full 41.2% of Sayre's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mischa Ferguson-Bell was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five assists and four steals.
Sayre's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-2. As for Samuel Fels, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sayre will take on String Theory at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The pair have allowed few points on average, (String Theory: 26.5, Sayre: 21.4) so any points scored will be well earned. Samuel Fels won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Kensington at 3:15 p.m. on January 12th. Kensington is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
