Springport is 1-9 against Reading since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Springport Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Reading Rangers at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Springport focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Springport posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Quincy and snuck past 49-46. The win was just what Springport needed coming off of a 79-44 defeat in their prior game.
Springport got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Eli Dyer out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dyer has scored all season. Gabe Rainey was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Reading's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 72-42 loss at the hands of Stockbridge. While losing is never fun, Reading can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 599th, while Stockbridge is ranked 176th).
Springport's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Reading, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Springport came out on top in a nail-biter against Reading when the teams last played back in December of 2023, sneaking past 42-40. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Reading's Brayden Wright, who scored 18 points along with four steals and two blocks. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Springport still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
