The Derry Trojans will face off against the Geibel Catholic Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
Derry saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell 34-23 to Jeannette. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Derry had strong showings from Ashlyn Corbett, who posted eight points and three steals, and Lucie Loucks, who had four points and seven boards.
Meanwhile, Geibel Catholic strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Steel Valley 87-22. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 58-10.
Geibel Catholic's win came from a few key players Derry will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mallory Clemmer, who dropped a double-double with 34 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was her fourth in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Emma Larkin, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 14 assists.
Geibel Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Derry's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Geibel Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Derry has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 22.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Geibel Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 45 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
