Burbank and Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Titans will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Burbank's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Burbank's offense. They fell 3-0 to Union Mine on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Titans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 10-0 shutout.
Jayy Frisk and Carmine Bermudez were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Frisk struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Bermudez tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Valley: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-7 otherwise. At bat, Frisk went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Bermudez went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Frisk a new career-high.
In other batting news, Giovanni Carmona was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Josh Brown was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in five consecutive matches.
Valley's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Burbank, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season.
Burbank took their victory against Valley when the teams last played back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 10-4 score. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
