Baseball Game Preview: Galileo Lions vs. KIPP SF College Prep Phoenix

The Galileo Lions will challenge the KIPP SF College Prep Phoenix at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Galileo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

While Galileo's victory against Gateway wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Galileo skirted past Gateway 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since March 21, 2024.

Hunter Thein made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Thein was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diego Gil, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Galileo's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Makoa Lawlor, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI.

Galileo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gateway only posted a batting average of .261.

Meanwhile, KIPP SF College Prep unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 18-0 to Burton two weeks ago. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.

Galileo is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. KIPP SF College Prep's loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

Galileo took their victory against KIPP SF College Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 10-1. Does Galileo have another victory up their sleeve, or will KIPP SF College Prep turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
