Cumberland Valley has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Altoona Mountain Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cumberland Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 348th, while Altoona is ranked 40th).
On Tuesday, Cumberland Valley came up short against State College and fell 49-40. Cumberland Valley has not had much luck with State College recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Cumberland Valley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Peyton Basehore, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Sienna Manns who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Basehore has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Altoona came tearing into Tuesday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Harrisburg 67-34 on the road. Altoona's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Cumberland Valley dropped their record down to 4-11 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Altoona, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.
Cumberland Valley came up short against Altoona in their previous matchup on January 3rd, falling 39-26. Can Cumberland Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
