The Granada Matadors will face off against the Pittsburg Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Granada's pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so Pittsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Granada's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past California 1-0. The win continues a trend for the Matadors in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won four in a row.
Granada got a great performance from Alex Piscotty as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over 6.2 innings pitched. Piscotty has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Meanwhile, Pittsburg put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over American Canyon. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.
Ty Thompson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Marc Torres looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Devin Simonton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Diego Deluna was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Pittsburg pushed their record up to 11-0 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average this season. As for Granada, their record is now 7-2.
Granada was able to grind out a solid victory over Pittsburg in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 10-7. Does Granada have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pittsburg turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
