St. Mary's extended the longest winning streak in Southern Minnesota this week by beating Wabasso, 48-18. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Knights.
Red Rock Central took down Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Springfield's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jacob Menage threw for 64 yards and Karson Herfurth had 31 yards receiving. On the ground Zach Wells chipped in 112 yards. Christopher Kretsch helped Springfield's passing attack out by catching one ball for 27 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place St. Mary's takes on second place Springfield. Last week, St. Mary's beat the Rabbits, while the Tigers defeated Sleepy Eye.
Next week's game between Rod Berdan's team and Springfield will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as Jordan Anderson tests his arm against Menage's defensive ability. St. Mary's' Anderson has recorded 1232 yards and 15 touchdowns this year, while Paul Dunn's team's Menage has six interceptions to his name.
There should be lots of points scored when St. Mary's and the Tigers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Knights comes in having scored 208 this season, while Springfield has scored 143. St. Mary's scored 48 points last week as it beat Wabasso.
The Falcons made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,344 from 7,874. The advance stemmed from a 42-0 victory over the Mustangs last week.
