Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a  season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). Their defense stepped up to hand the West Delaware Hawks  a   10-0 shutout  on Thursday. The  win was some much needed relief for Independence as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Independence's  victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-14-1. As for West Delaware, they dropped their record down to 0-17 with the  loss, which was their eighth straight  on the road.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence will venture away from home to  face off against Dike-New Hartford  at 5:00  p.m.  on Monday. As for West Delaware, they will head out to  square off against Vinton-Shellsburg  at 5:00  p.m.  on Monday.
