Arroyo hasn't had much luck against Berkeley recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Dons will welcome the Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Arroyo is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Tennyson get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Dons, who have now won five contests in a row.
Marco Carbajal and Justin Nelson did most of the damage at the plate: Carbajal went 1-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Nelson went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Nelson has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Loller, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Arroyo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.
Meanwhile, Berkeley came into Tuesday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Hayward on Tuesday as they made off with a 10-0 win. The Yellowjackets not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 19th (when they won 16-6).
Simon Scurlock tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Berkeley is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Seddrick Henderson was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those runs were his first of the season. Chase Worthington was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Arroyo pushed their record up to 8-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Berkeley, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.
Arroyo came out on top in a nail-biter against Berkeley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Dons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
