The Azusa Aztecs suffered their biggest defeat since December 16, 2023 on Friday. They were dealt a 58-26 loss at the hands of Duarte. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Azusa in their matchups with Duarte: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Azusa lost, one person who can't be blamed is Evelin Villalva. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Villalva has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ruby Untoria, who scored three points along with six rebounds.
Azusa has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 15 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Duarte, they pushed their record up to 10-8 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Sierra Vista the next time they take the court. Duarte will head out to face Sierra Vista at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, while Azusa will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
