New Roads hasn't had much luck against Milken recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Jaguars challenge the Wildcats at 3:00 p.m.
New Roads is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Rio Hondo Prep on Tuesday. They came up short against the Kares, falling 8-1. The loss was the Jaguars' first of the season.
New Roads saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Linares, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Milken posted their closest win since March 21, 2024 on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Brentwood School, sneaking past 9-7.
Joey Schwartz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schwartz was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Jordan Liebman looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, Jordan Brown was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Jonah Herschko was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Milken always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
The victory got Milken back to even at 1-1. As for New Roads, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
New Roads might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Milken in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can New Roads avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
