The Chaffey Tigers will challenge the Montclair Cavaliers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Chaffey has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chaffey is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Tuesday. They lost 16-5 to Don Lugo.
Chaffey saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Erik Sandoval, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Rolando Martinez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
While Montclair didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Diamond Ranch 11-3 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
Montclair also got a great performance from Chris Casey as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Casey has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Villalobos, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Andrew Calderon was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Montclair kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive contests.
Montclair's win bumped their record up to 7-1-1. As for Chaffey, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chaffey hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Montclair struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chaffey came up short against Montclair in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 8-5. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
