The West Vigo Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Covington Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. West Vigo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
West Vigo took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Sullivan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vikings came out on top in a nail-biter against the Golden Arrows on Wednesday, sneaking past 6-4. The game was the first time the Vikings have beaten the Golden Arrows on their field since May 23, 2019.

Jaleigh Lindley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jaycee Elkins was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Janelle Sullivan, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
West Vigo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sullivan struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, Covington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 14-1 to Riverton Parke.
Covington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley Holycross, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
The victory made it two in a row for West Vigo and bumps their season record up to 17-1. As for Covington, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
Covington's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. West Vigo has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Covington, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 strikeouts. Will West Vigo keep running through batters, or will the Trojans buck the trend?
West Vigo took their win against Covington in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
