John Hancock Academy extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-14 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Covenant Academy Rams. That's two games in a row now that the Rebels have lost by just one run.
Eli Letson put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Letson was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jack Letson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Matthew Wilson was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Covenant Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since February 28th.
Like John Hancock Academy, Covenant Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Asa Wood. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Wood a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Covenant Academy: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 8-12 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Seth Daugherty, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Covenant Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 8-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was William Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
John Hancock Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Covenant Academy, they will take on First Presbyterian Day at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight.
