The Foothills Christian Knights will take on the Mount Miguel Matadors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Things were looking good for Foothills Christian after they put the first points on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chula Vista.
Foothills Christian saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jr Merino, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another was Trevor Cochrum, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Mount Miguel beat Castle Park 9-6 on Friday. The Matadors haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Easton Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angel Delgado, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Braylon Cardwell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Mount Miguel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in three consecutive games.
The victory got Mount Miguel back to even at 2-2. As for Foothills Christian, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Foothills Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mount Miguel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Foothills Christian beat Mount Miguel 10-6 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will Foothills Christian repeat their success, or does Mount Miguel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
