Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2021 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Derrick Moore of
St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) is the 2021 MaxPreps Maryland High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-4, 250-pound defensive lineman led the freelance Panthers to an 8-1 record and the No. 1 ranking in the Maryland MaxPreps Top 25 ranking.
Moore, who recently decommitted from Oklahoma, had 52 tackles on the season, including 23 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. He ranks as the No. 2 recruit in the state, according to 247Sports and is the No. 17 defensive lineman in the nation. Moore did not play last year due to COVID.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in early January.
