Despite the loss, Marysville had strong showings from Demi Boykin, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven steals and six boards, and Abigail Pietz, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Pietz is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 38 games she's played dating back to last season. Folaiula Sagapolutele was another key player, putting up seven points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, everything went Chico's way against West Valley on Saturday as Chico made off with a 61-39 victory. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while the Eagles are ranked 410th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marysville better keep an eye on Kayleigh Solano. She was instrumental in Chico's win, going 9 of 12 on her way to 26 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Harrison, who posted ten points and three steals.
Chico was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Valley only racked up four assists.
Chico has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points per game. As for Marysville, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Marysville has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Chico struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
