The St. Joseph Spartans entered their tilt with the Riverview Raiders with 13 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 14. St. Joseph put the hurt on Riverview with a sharp 54-32 win on Thursday. St. Joseph has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 22 points or more this season.
St. Joseph's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gia Richter, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Richter is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Spinelli, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds.
Riverview lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Juliette Brun, who scored three points along with three blocks. Another player making a difference was Lola Abraham, who scored nine points along with five assists.
St. Joseph's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-2. As for Riverview, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6.
St. Joseph will head out on the road to face off against Shady Side Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Shady Side Academy will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something St. Joseph surely won't give up without a fight. As for Riverview, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Jeannette at 12:00 p.m. on February 10th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Adriana Allison and Abraham.
