With a playoff win on the line, Citizens Christian Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles an 8-0 shutout. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 contests by six runs or more this season.
Thomas Gentry and Jonathan Rutland made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gentry didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Rutland tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gentry has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Gentry went 3-for-5 with one RBI, while Rutland went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Landon Williams was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
