With a playoff win on the line, Citizens Christian Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles an 8-0 shutout. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 contests by six runs or more this season.
Thomas Gentry and Jonathan Rutland made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gentry didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Rutland tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gentry has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Gentry went 3-for-5 with one RBI, while Rutland went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Landon Williams was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Gray McLean, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.
Citizens Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vidalia Heritage Academy only posted an OBP of .300.
Citizens Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Vidalia Heritage Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-15.
