The Omaha Northwest Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 67-45 loss at the hands of Gretna. While losing is never fun, Omaha Northwest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Dragons are ranked 18th).
Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chiok John, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Dontae McDowell was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Omaha Northwest struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-3) when they just don't pass the ball.
Leading Gretna to victory were Landon Pokorski and Kade Cook. Pokorski almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine assists, while Cook scored 26 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cook has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Wilcoxson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Omaha Northwest's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Gretna, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Omaha Northwest will take on the Monarchs at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Gretna, they will be playing at home against the Eagles at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Omaha Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Friday.
