Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in
high school football. America's source for high school sports continues
the tradition to close out the 2021 season by naming the top player in
each state. Selections are based on team success and individual
excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Governor Mifflin (Shillington) senior
Nicholas Singleton is the 2021 MaxPreps Pennsylvania High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot, 210-pound running back led the Mustangs to a 10-1 record and ran for 2,043 yards and 41 touchdowns on 165 carries and hauled in four catches for 98 yards and two more touchdowns.
Singleton's biggest night of the season came Nov. 12 against Warwick in the District 3 Class 5A quarterfinal when he carried 16 times for 326 yards and seven touchdowns. The No. 49 overall prospect in the country, according to 247Sports, had TD runs of 2, 13, 15, 18, 26, 55, 60 and 63 yards.
The fourth-ranked running back prospect nationally, signed with Penn State over 33 additional offers and is projected to be a future first round pick in the NFL Draft in the future. Singleton set Berks County records with 6,326 rushing yards and 116 touchdowns in his four-year career.
Kyle McCord of St. Joseph's Prep was the 2020 MaxPreps Pennsylvania High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound quarterback led the Hawks (6-0) to their third consecutive state championship.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-American Team, which will be released in early January.
