The Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 52-47 loss to they. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Phillipsburg is ranked 33rd).
Phillipsburg was led to victory by Allan Palos and Matthew Scerbo Jr.. Palos scored 12 points, while Scerbo Jr. scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Martin, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Bridgewater-Raritan bumped their record down to 4-6 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Phillipsburg, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Bridgewater-Raritan will head out on the road to face off against North Hunterdon at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Phillipsburg, they will face off against Colonia at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
