Baseball Game Preview: Montgomery Vikings vs. Maria Carrillo Pumas

The Montgomery Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Maria Carrillo Pumas at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Montgomery will be strutting in after a victory while Maria Carrillo will be coming in after a defeat.

Montgomery lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Santa Rosa, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Panthers on Friday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Ryder Dienhart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on ten hits. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Montgomery is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Hayden Quam was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lukas Walker, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Maria Carrillo was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Rancho Cotate. That's two games in a row now that the Pumas have lost by exactly two runs.

Zach Brandt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Petersen, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Montgomery is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Maria Carrillo, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
