The Carmel Padres will face off against the Soledad Aztecs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Carmel has three straight victories, Soledad has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Carmel's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Menlo-Atherton.
The team relied heavily on Sean Carr, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Dean Briant, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Soledad suffered their closest loss since April 8th on Friday. They fell just short of St. Francis by a score of 9-7.
Jordan Nichols made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Soledad: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-13-1 otherwise. Ethan Sanchez was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Soledad's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14-1. As for Carmel, their victory bumped their record up to 17-6.
Soledad's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carmel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. It's a different story for Soledad, though, as they've only averaged .255. Will they be able to contain Carmel's hitters?
Carmel came out on top in a nail-biter against Soledad in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 8-7. Will the Padres repeat their success, or do the Aztecs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
