The Yutan-Mead Patriots will venture away from home to face off against the Douglas County West Falcon at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Yutan-Mead is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Yutan-Mead came up short against Ralston and fell 7-2. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Leah Thompson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Bailey Bartunek, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Douglas County West came tearing into Tuesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past the Eagles 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcon have posted since September 11th.
Lillee Zach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bella Zach, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Douglas County West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Yutan-Mead's loss dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Douglas County West, their win bumped their record up to 19-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Yutan-Mead has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Douglas County West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Yutan-Mead's way against Douglas County West in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Yutan-Mead made off with a 15-3 victory. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
