The Maxwell Panthers will square off against the Biggs Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Maxwell is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Portola a 7-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Massey Baker made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Baker was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Baker wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Edgar Izquierdo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs Izquierdo has posted since back in April. Luke Pearson was another, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Biggs came tearing into last Friday's match with three straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 16-2 win. The Wolverines not only won last Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 18-2).
Like Maxwell, Biggs also got a great game from a two-way player: Dennis Dewhurst. He struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Dewhurst was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Hudson Brewer was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Collin Beck, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Biggs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.
Biggs' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-10. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Maxwell, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 19-6 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Maxwell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Biggs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Maxwell's way against Biggs when the teams last played back in April, as Maxwell made off with a 12-1 victory. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
