Liberty dropped down to 11-23 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Independence Patriots by a score of 5-4. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-0 loss back in April.
Maddie Cox put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Annbell Lemon made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those home runs were her first of the season.
As for Independence, they pushed their record up to 22-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.
On Independence's side, Payton Boothe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. Boothe has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ava Parks was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Emma Simpson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As of now, neither Liberty nor Independence have any future games scheduled.
